The Tempest: a re-telling of Shakespeare’s magical last play by a company of learning disabled actors will be performed at Salisbury Arts Centre on Thursday 18 March, 8pm (cafe bar open 6.45 pm) This show will be BSL interpreted Tickets: £9, concessions £7 (essential companions are free) Box Office: 01722 321744 The Firebird Theatre’s latest production is an interpretation and free adaptation of Shakespeare’s The Tempest which is a unique and deeply personal re-telling of the story. Without losing any of the magic of Shakespeare, the Company tells a very human tale about the complexities, joys and tragedies of real life. One of the actors shared her insight: “…you think you are a monster because they say you are; you behave like a monster because you are treated like one. Remember? When you get called a name enough you get to think it is right.” Importantly, company members believe that people do not expect a company of disabled actors with learning difficulties to be able to ‘do’ Shakespeare. “We want to use more dance and movement in our telling of the story to show the magic in it” say the Firebird Theatre members. |
