Breakaway News:

While we miss our dear Faith very much we are very grateful to the team of Hazel Cheesman and Catherine Hall who are doing a fabulous job in providing the Breakaway programme for 2010. Our first holiday of the year was to Paris and Hazel has told us lots about it:

“Everyone enjoyed the Eurotunnel. On arriving we settled in the hotel having been upgraded – a good start. Then we all went to check out the lay of the land and have a meal. We found an excellent restaurant to which we returned on Sunday as it was so welcoming and lively, with Salsa lessons and terrific food.

On Friday we spent the day in EuroDisney, which meant lots of queues, lots of toilets and a few rides. One of the holiday makers had a number of epileptic seizures that day but we managed to stop him hurting himself….

Up and away to Paris the next day by train and metro. After drinks and toilets we walked to the Trocadero area and then across the river to the Eiffel Tower. Some people went up while others watched and waited! Then it was time for the evening meal in a very French restaurant on the river and then we walked back along the Seine to catch a boat. We travelled up the river as the sun set and then back as the lights came on around us.

Back to EuroDisney the next day some people went on rides and we all watched Parade. Later we drove to the Commonwealth War Grave Cemetery at Etapes, and lunched on local fish and shellfish at a pavement restaurant. Back at Calais we visited the hypermarket before catching our train. We got home about midnight.”

Hazel also told us that the feedback forms were very positive – some comments were: “Brilliant – Paris at night – Ahhh” “The rides were great,” “Liked the real French food” and “The staff were great” (we know they are!).

People are just back from the Butlins’ trip, with Spain and Blackpool still to come. Many thanks to all the Breakaway staff, to all the Breakaway Committee, and to the holidaymakers for making it all worthwhile. And of course to the shop ladies whose hard work makes it all possible. Watch out too for the theatre coach trip later in the year.
