FOCUS:
How is the new Social Services referral system working?
In our last issue we gave you a leaflet on the new system for asking for
information or help from Social Services.
The central number is 0300 4560111 but you can still use a local number – in
South Wiltshire this is 01722 410814
Now South Wilts Mencap are receiving reports of people having real
difficulties in getting help from the new Focus system on even quite simple
queries. Just some of the examples we have heard are:
One person looking for help on daytime activities for her daughter received a reply from the finance section, quite misunderstanding the query.
A first enquiry about Direct payments was put through to accounts who did not know what the caller was talking about.
A family carer reports many minutes spent listening to music on several occasions, still not getting through after more than a week. And this on a question that in former days would have been solved by a quick 2 minute call to the local CTPLD office.
A support worker needed to phone the Adult Placement Office in Salisbury but the Focus assistant had never heard of the service and could find no details.
Please let us know your experiences of the new referral service
- good or bad – by phoning Catherine Hall on 07920 522462.
