Getting it right in Health Care:

Your help is wanted with a Royal Mencap campaign about health. Did you know:

• People with a learning disability are 58 times more likely to die before their 50th birthday than the general population.
• Roughly a third have epilepsy, and many are at a higher risk of illnesses such as heart disease and diabetes.

Despite this, people with a learning disability are still not receiving equal healthcare, resulting in health problems and premature deaths.

Mencap believes that:
●all people with a learning disability have the right to equal healthcare
all healthcare professionals have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to the treatment they provide to people with a learning disability
●all healthcare professionals should provide a high standard of treatment and value the lives of people with a learning disability.

Mencap’s ‘Getting it right’ charter sets out nine key actions that bodies responsible for healthcare must put into practice and we want all MPs to get involved in this campaign.

Please fill in the form available by clicking here to ask our MP John Glenn to help. Drop the form into the Mencap shop in an envelope marked Getting It Right or send it to 86 Lower Road Salisbury SP2 9NJ
