Connexions provides a confidential information, advice, guidance and support service for young people aged 13-19 (or 13- 25 if they have special needs). Young people can talk to a Personal Adviser about:
• Careers, learning and training
• Jobs and work
• Money and housing
• Volunteering and leisure
• Health
• Alcohol and Drugs
• Their rights
• Relationships
Advisers are involved from Year 9 with students with Leaning Difficulties (following the SN Code of Practice). They attend Year 9 and Year 11 reviews for statemented students and work with the young person, parents and school staff in mainstream and special schools to look at suitable provision post-16. They will continue to support young people post-16 until they are settled or hand over to another agency at an appropriate point.
For young people with Learning Difficulties, Connexions Personal Advisers have developed links with an extensive network of local and regional support agencies and providers (including LSC, colleges, specialist school and residential colleges, Jobcentre DEA staff and many others). Through this network of contacts they ensure that young people get the help that they need.
