South Wilts Mencap raise money to provide both services for and financial help to those with a learning disability and those who care for them. South Wilts Mencap awards grants to help individual people with learning disabilities and those organisations that support people with learning disabilities locally.
Grant applications are considered and discussed on a monthly basis by the South Wilts Mencap Executive Committee. Trustees are concerned to support individuals and new initiatives, but not to use charitable funds to provide services that are the responsibility of statutory authorities. The South Wilts Mencap Executive Committee want to encourage self advocacy amongst those with a learning disability and requests should, as far as practicable, be from the person with a learning disability him or herself, helped and supported by a carer or any appropriate individual.
Applications most likely to be met are those for small sums to be spent in a way that will help to increase self reliance. Applications for large amounts will be considered only where it can be shown that they will contribute to carefully planned development for the benefit of those with a learning disability.
Grants must be submitted by the 1st of the month to be considered by the Executive Committee in the same month. Grants submitted after the 1st, will be considered the following month.
