Wiltshire Wheels for All Launch Sat 15 July

Wiltshire Council is launching a new disability sports project focusing on adapted cycling. Wiltshire Wheels for All will launch on Saturday 15 July at Salisbury Athletics Track, from 10am-2pm.

A range of adapted cycles will be available, including tricycles, hand cycles and tandems, and people are welcome to bring their own adapted bike if they wish.

The Wheels for All initiative is a nationally recognised programme that enables children and adults with disabilities and mobility issues to take part in cycling activities. By using specially adapted cycles, the activities are accessible to a broad range of people, and are physically and mentally stimulating and, above all, fun.

Each session will begin on the hour at 10am, 11am, 12pm, 1pm, and people are required to register their interest and to book on to one of the four sessions.

To find out more, please contact the Sports Development team at Wiltshire Council by email or call Rob Paget, Disability Development Officer, on 07917 262686.

New Club

Following the launch event, a regular adapted cycling programme will begin in Salisbury on Monday 17 July and will be run on a weekly basis. The adapted cycling programme has been developed in partnership with the national charity Cycling Projects and more locally, South Wilts Mencap. The Children’s Physiotherapy unit at Salisbury hospital has also played a significant role in organising the launch event. Find out more about the new club here.

New Position Available with South Wilts Mencap

South Wilts Mencap are offering an exciting new position to coordinate a new service in Salisbury for children with learning disabilities and their families.

Play Partner Parties are a new venture for South Wilts Mencap starting in September 2017.  They provide a way to enable children aged between 5 and 13 years old who may feel socially isolated, have a disability or are differently abled, to meet, have fun and play with other children.  Parties are usually held once a month on a Sunday afternoon for 2 hours (10 times a year excluding December and August) at Five Rivers Leisure Centre, Salisbury.  This is an inclusive event for all the family, and siblings are included in the play opportunities and tea party.  It is hoped that Play Partner Parties will give families an opportunity to develop friendships and support networks with each other.
