A performance of the opera by Howard Moody
Performed by Salisbury Festival Chorus and La Folia Orchestra

An opera by Howard Moody telling the story of Simon Gronowski, whose mother pushed him off a train bound for Auschwitz in 1943 in order to save his life. Composer Howard Moody met Simon in Brussels and on hearing his extraordinary story, promised that it would be the subject of his next opera. Originally commissioned by Battle Festival in 2016, it has two performances in Salisbury’s St Thomas’s Church as part of Wiltshire Creative’s Lift Off! weekend.

Despite the sombre story, PUSH is packed with memorable scenes and rousing tunes, with a strong message of hope and belief in the ‘power of human goodness’. Simon Gronowski himself will be in Salisbury for the performances and there is an opportunity to hear his story first-hand in his talk at Salisbury Methodist Church at 11am on Saturday 25 August.

Two performances on Saturday 25 August at 5pm and at 8pm
