IN MEMORY OF TWO OF OUR SHOP VOLUNTEERS

CHRIS ROSS

Chris Ross died at home on Sunday June 28th aged 91. Chris had worked on the counter in the Shop for quite a few years on Monday afternoons and sometimes on a Saturday afternoon. Her cheerful and pleasant personality was excellent in dealing with the customers and she always enjoyed working with Jamie! In addition her writing was so neat and her maths excellent when cashing up!  Chris’s husband Alan died some time ago and she leaves three daughters -Kate, Sue and Juliet – six grandchildren and fifteen great grand children. Her family was so important to her. Chris faced her final few weeks with much courage and composure and will be sadly missed.

MALCOLM CARVER

Malcolm Carver died at Amesbury Abbey on Saturday June 27th aged 93. He had worked on the SW Mencap Committee along with Nigel Scott as the Treasurer, when Greg Read was the Chairman. In those days everything was paid by cheque and Nigel and Malcolm often met up for the double signature. As Nigel became more involved with the Shop finances, he asked Malcolm to help with the Shop banking. Malcolm took this on for several years, very cheerfully, and really enjoyed meeting the volunteers working in the Shop.  Finally his daughters became more than a little anxious about a 90 year old carrying considerable cash in a bag to the Post office and he had to give up this task. 

Malcolm’s wife, Janice, died some time ago and he cared for her in her final illness at home. He leaves two daughters-  Katie and Sarah –  six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

We send our deepest condolences to the families of two wonderful people who gave up their time to work as volunteers for South Wilts Mencap and who will always be fondly remembered by those who worked alongside them.
